Abstract(in English) We report the development of highly reliable LiNbO_3 waveguide optical modulators for 5Gb/s submarine transmission system. We investigated, in detail, the DC bias shift and thermal shift problem, which limit the reliability of the modulators and describe the reduction technique. We proposed a Si double slit structure with a minus-quantity DC drift to compensated DC-drift and the optimum resistivity condition of Si layer to improve thermal shift. We fabricated the 5Gb/s modulators and proposed that we estimated drift is less than 20% over a period of 15 years at 35 degs.
