Optical Bandpass Filter with Boxlike Frequency Response Using a Combination of Michelson and Gires-Tournois Interferometers

Abstract(in English) We propose a novel optical bandpass (BP) filter using a combination of Michelson interferometer (MI) and Gires-Tournois resonator (GTR) for DWDM communication network system and other optical measurement applications. One unique feature of this device is that it has nealy an ideal frequency transfer function namely : zero ripple, unity transmisssion, sharp roll-off or stepness (71 degrees) and infinite rejection ratio when reflectance p is equal to 1/3. Other potential features of this element are (1) variable bandwidth, and (2) center-wavelength tunability. Moreover, this filter can be designed easily using only three parameters and all important features are given in simple algebraic equations. Numerical results showing these charecteristics are presented and other applications are briefly discussed.
