Abstract(in English) This paper describes the fundamental design for a compact and multiple optical fiber connector system.First we discuss the optimization of the ferrule diameter for compact multiple optical backpanel connectors.An expression for the total number of optical connections on a backpanel is derived as a function of the ferrule diameter.Next the fundamental design concept and the structural features of a newly developed optical fiber connector system are described.The system,called an MU optical fiber connector system, consists of two types of backpanel connector,3 types of adaptor and tools for installation and operation.A variety of mechanical and environmental test results which assure the reliability of the connector are also described.
