Abstract(in English) Achievement of a low cost and small size optical module is a vital factor in realizing practical subscriber network. To meet such requirement,LD, PD module is newly developed under the idea of surface mounting and reflow soldering.High productivity and compact size is achieved in this module by using the passive alignment techniques.The compact optical coupling unit on the Si substrate enabled us to use a surface mount type ceramic package.The fiber output port of this module is designed for a simple receptacle structure.All parts and material withstood soldering process,thus allowing reflow.Very compact size of 7.6×12 ×3 mm is achieved.
