Saturation characteristics and optical coupling of Tapered- waveguide travelling wave semiconducter laser amplifier (TTW-SLA)

Abstract(in English) Taper shape dependence of Tapered-waveguide Traveling-wave semiconductor Laser Amplifier(TTW-SLA)on its saturation and ASE noise characteristics are analyzed.Using linear and Gaussian TTW- SLA,improvement of saturation power more than 13dB can be attained comparerd to that of conventional SLA with uniform waveguide.Also, in exponential TTW-SLA,the ASE power can be reduced 1, 10 of that of broad type SLA.In order to improve the optical copuling between TTW-SLA and optical fiber,semiconductor Vertical GRIN Lens(VGL)was proposed.It was found from theoretical analysis that its optical coupling loss can be reduced down to -0.3dB using VGL.
