Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this review, tribological problems between a catenary wire and contact strips of pantograph are summarized from the experimental results obtained by Japanese National Railways during 1970-1987. Adhesive wear should be emphasized as a critical wear mechanism in such a sliding contact between relatively soft metals. From this view-point, the effects of sliding speed, collective current and arc striking caused by rain water on the wear of mutual materials (Cu catenary wire and metallic strips) are discussed as important factors for speed-up beyond 300km/h.
