Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The effect of foreign solid particles interposed between sliding metal surfaces in metallic wear is discussed. When hard abrasive particles are interposed between sliding metal surfaces, cutting action is revealed if the grain size is larger than the transition size dt; while the grains cannot act as abrasives if their size is smaller than dt but are captured in adhesive wear particles. In the latter case, the grains make increase in the severe wear rate of the metals and also promote the severe-to-mild wear transition. The role of another solid particles, such as foreign metal particles in the wear of metal surfaces is also discussed.
