Abstract(in English) In Electric contacts, downsizing, high reliability and long life time have been required recently. Designs of contacts based on the elucidations of phenomena and developments of new contacts are necessary. The arc discharges decrease in performance of contacts. The arc phenomena have not been elucidated sufficiently, because the arc phenomena have many parameters such as voltage, current, contact opening velocity, and so on. In order to elucidate the contact phenomena, simultaneouse and parallel measurement under some conditions is one of the effective method. We generated the arc discharges in the air in opening Ag contacts, and arc durations and resistances were measured, and the video images of surfaces on the cathodes were simultaneousely recorded on a video-tape. In this paper, the relatinships are investigated between arc discharges and variations in colors of the surfaces on the cathodes that were analyzed by image processing software.
