Abstract(in English) In the evolution of the optical access network system in Japan, it has become necessary ; to realize the ONU for PON system with a small capacity attached to telephone poles and hung by an electric wire set up between the poles. In installing ONU on the telephone poles or hung by electric wires, it is especially required to be compact, lightweight, with excellent heat - radiating characteristics, weather - temperature proof, and easy to maintain. Also it is necessary to be of well - balanced design to meet user requirements in pursuit of low cost. This paper shows a perspective insight to clear these technical subjects and to realize an economical ONU with a small capacity.
