Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Historically, electric motors have generated torque through the interaction of an electric current and magnetic field. Matsushita was one of the pioneers to develop an unconventional motor which obtains torque by converting ultrasonic oscillations at a rate of 50,000/min. Ultrasonic motors were originally low in conversion efficiency and suffered from unacceptable noise levels. However, with the development of new lining materials a substantially higher conversion efficiency and a reduced noise level have been achieved. The advanced lining materials are produced by hot-press forming a heat-resistant synthetic fiber below the fusing temperature.
