A Module of DFB Laser Integrated with EA Modulator for 10Gb/s Transmission Systems

Abstract(in English) The limitation imposed by the chromatic dispersion in the optical fiber has become the main obstacle in extending the transmission distance of high-speed standard fiber transmission systems. DFB lasers integrated with EA(Electroabsorption) modulator are promising candidates for lightwave transmitter sources because of their compact size and low-charping characteristics. In this paper, we developed a module of DFB(Distributed Feedback) laser integrated with EA modulator for 10Gb/s transmission systems and demonstrated good transmission performance over 75km standard optical fiber. Moreover, we made a precise transmission performance simulator for DFB lasers integrated with EA modulator including the dependence of α-parameter on the modulator bias-voltage. We obtained good agreement between experimental results and simulated transmission performance.
