Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Configuration of ferrule endface is very important to obtain long term reliability of the physical contact (PC) optical connector, e.g. SC connectors. To ensure long term reliability, NTT optimized the ferrule end dimensions which are a spherical radius of 10-25 mm, a fiber undercut of less than 50 nm, and a convex vertex eccentricity of less than 50 μm. We have tested the environmental durability of PC connectors with critical fiber undercut and a convex vertex eccentricity at a spherical radius of 10 mm and 25 mm and confirmed validity of the critical ferrule end dimensions.
