Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) By using miniaturized cutting machine tools, production systems for small parts will become considerably small in size, and remarkable energy saving effect will be realized. In order to demonstrate a possibility of micronization of cutting machine tools and the effect, a micro-lathe has been developed. The lathe measures 32.0mm in length, 25.0mm in depth, and 30.5mm in height. It weighs 100g. Rated power of the main shaft drive motor is 1.5W. As a result of cutting examination of brass rod, it was obtained that the cutting accuracy is equal to or better than that of a conventional lathe. And further, the power consumption of the mainshaft drive unit under cutting condition was less than 1.6W.
