Abstract(in English) We have been developing a photo-stereometric system, KKN/1B capable of visualizing the contact area between the femoral and tibial joint surfaces immediately after total knee arthroplasty. Such visualization could be achieved by combining 6-DOF motion data of the femur relative to the tibia, and data of their opposing articular surfaces. The purpose of this study is to modify this system into applicable to the patello-femoral joint. To achieve this, we developed a patella connector used for rigidly connecting the measuring device of KKN/1B to the patella and a KKN/1B-based digitizer for the patella surface used intraoperatively. Data of this particular joint surfaces were obtained by accurately digitizing the joint surface of the femoral component and MR images of the patella. By applying a 3-D registration technique to the two different data of the patella surface, we could combine the motion data and the surface data, resulting in the visualization of the patello-femoral joint contact during knee movement.
