Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes a system for an accurate patella tracking after total knee arthroplasty. Four marker LEDs were rigidly mounted on the femoral component and the patella by means of measuring-bows. For the connection to the patella, we used a semicircular connection device surrounding the patella, to which a measuring-bow was connected rigidly. In the patella tracking, movement of the LEDs were detected during knee movement by two sets of 3 linear-CCD cameras at a rate of 100 Hz. For experiments, we used a frozen cadaveric knee, and loads of 39.2[N] and 9.8[N] were applied to its quadriceps and each of the lateral and medial humstrings, respectively. A patella tracking was carried out during knee flexion and extension ranging from 0 to 90 degrees. The trajectory of the patella was nearly the same as those previously reported, and no mutual interference of the measuring-bows were observed during knee movement. Thus the system was verified to be capable of measuring the patella movement relative to the femoral component accurately and non-invasively.
