Dynamics of Cerebellar Cortex Neuron Activities during Non-REM and REM Sleep.

Abstract(in English) Spontaneous single-unit activities during sleep were recorede from neurons of the cat's cerebellar cortex. The activities showed a white noise-like spectrum in the low frequency range, 0.04-1.0Hz, during steadystate non-REM sleep (slow-wave sleep), and the 1/f-noise-like during REM sleep. These results were consistent with our previous reports regarding the thalamic ventrobasal complex neurons as well as the hippocampal theta and pyramidal neurons, the neurons of the mesencephalic reticular formation, the primary somatosensory cortex, areas 6 and 18 of the cortex, the lateral geniculate nucleus, supporting the generality of the neuronal dynamics-alternation during sleep in the processor system which is tentatively called by us.
