Anatomical and retinotopic organization of functional areas in the human visual cortex

Abstract(in English) Recent studies of fMRI have revealed that human visual cortex consists of one primary visual area and multiple extrastriate areas arranged in a distributed hierarchical organization. The anatomical, functional and retinotopic properties of these visual areas remain to be unknown. With using methods for cortical surface area measurement and functional measurement of the human brain, we determined size, position and extent of functional defined striate and extrastriate areas in the human brain. We also specified the retinotopic properties of the areas by estimating cortical magnification factor.
