Abstract(in English) People with muscular dystrophy lack progressively their functions of movement of the limbs. When they sit on a wheel chair, they can not lift their upper limbs higher than arm rests. The authors proposed an electrically powered arm support system which assists on the forearm and the elbow. Patients on a wheel chair can change the position of the system by themselves. Normal subject tests revealed that the arm on the device could be safely supported and positioned in an appropriate manner.
