Measurement of Sarcomere Lengths of Muscle Fiber Bundles under Epi-illumination Type Polarization Microscope

Abstract(in English) In this study, we measured single sarcomere lengths of central region of thick muscle fiber bundles resting and isometiric contracting at descending limb of force-length relation of sarcomeres. We made a film of striation images of thick muscle fiber bundles under epi-illumination type polarization microscope and measured single sarcomere lengths adapting this striation images to elliptical Gabor filter technique. It is supposed that striation pattern of a single myofiber located surface of muscle fiber bundles is observed under this epi-illumination type polarization microscope. It is confirmed that sarcomere lengths of muscle fiber bundles isometric contracting at descending limb are same within the limits of quantization error.
