Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Masticatory force and bite force applied to the teeth are known to generate compressive forces in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Such joint force is referred to as "TMJ loading". In this paper, functions of the posterior portion of the temporalis muscle were analyzed from a view point of TMJ loading, through estimating the loading by applying subject's data of bite force and electromyography into a 2-D static model of te jaws with a rigid-body-spring model of TMJ. Consequently, we obtained the following results:1) the activation of the posterior portion of the temporalis muscle was verified to reduce TMJ loading;2) when biting at the molars, TMJ loading was not necessarily minimized, while the compressive force distribution in the articular disk seemed acceptable with respect to load-bearing structures of the disk;3) when biting at the premolars, TMJ loading was minimized approximately. |
