Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) To evaluate the cardiac lymphatic mechanics, we visualized cardiac lymph vessels during a cardiac cycle and measured phasic diameter changes with different myocardial contractility in canine hearts. The lymph vessels with valves were clearly visualized in all cases with different contractility by a needle-lens CCD microscope system. They did not exhibit visible autonomic contraction throughout our observation. Diameters of epicardial lymphatic did not change during a cardiac cycle either under control conditions or during intravenous injection of ISP and intracoronary injection of Lidocaine. Thus, drainage of cardiac lymph under different myocardial contractility is not controlled on the beat-to-beat basis, but with a much longer time constant. Autonomic contraction, if any, may function little to propel cardiac lymph flow.
