Mechanism of electrical sterilization with the metal coating hollow fiber membrane

Abstract(in English) In previous studies, we demonstrated that the metal coating hollow fiber membrane which was coated with metal on a hollow fiber membrane made of polypropylene had the high ability of trapping bacteria and the high bactericidal efficiency to them by electric current passed through the membrane surface. On the bactericidal mechanism of this electrical sterilization, there were several possibilities. However, the possibilities had not been understood experimentally. In this report, we suggest that this sterilization was mainly done by Joule-heating which was generated by electric current passed through the membrane surface.
