Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study showed that de nevo protein synthesis inhibitor, cycloheximide (CHX) induced cardiomyocyte-specific apoptosis-like cell death in cardiac myocyte-fibroblast co-cultures from neonatal rats. Such cardiomyocyle death was characterized by the shrinkage of cell body, the formation of DNA fragment, and by the condensation of nuclear chromatin. CHX-induced apoptosis-like myocyte death was suppressed by the caspase-3 inhibitor and the inhibitor of Na^+/H^+ antiporter, amiloride. There results suggest a possible involvement of caspase-3 activation and Na^+/H^+ antiporter activation in the apoptosis-signal transduction cascade of cardiomyocytes.
