Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) 3-D digitizers using potentiometers have been used extensively as a handy position-measurement apparatus, due to its simple and light-weight structure. Its accuracy, however,is limited inevitably by the axis mobility of the sensor. This paper then presents a calibration technique for a digitizer possessing 4 sensors, which was developed to measure the position of several jaw points. To mitigate the errors caused by the axis mobility, the measurement field was divided into 4 distinct domains, bilateral tooth-regions and jaw-joint regions, each in which the mobility is relatively restricted.A total of 8 potentiometer parameters, prepared for each domain, were determined to minimize the measurement error of many spatially distributed reference-positions,in the sense of least- squares.Consequently, the accuracy can be improved to lie within 3 mm and 4 mm in the tooth and joint regions, respectively.
