Estimation of input parameters from moments of the interspike intervals based on the diffusion models

Abstract(in English) The Ornstein-Uhlenbeck(OU)process has often been used to model the spontaneous activity of single neurons.A method of quantitative estimation of two parameters representing input process,namely the mean input μ and variance σ to the neuron per unit time,in the OU neuronal model in terms of the empirical 1st and 2nd moments of interspike intervals is proposed.In this estimation,values of three parameters representing intrinsic characters of a neuron is needed.The dependence of estimates μ^^^ > and σ^^^> on the assumed values of them and on the moments of t he observed interspike intervals is clarified,respectively.A comparison is performed between the estimates based on the Wiener model and on the OU model.Finally,this method is applied to interspike interval data observed from neurons in mesencephalic reticular formation of cat during hypothetical sleep,slow wave sleep stage and wake stage.
