Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The kinematic axis refers to a theoretical intercondylar axis of the tempoomandibular joint, which translates on a single curved surface during all sagittal movements.Normal joints actually have such rotattion axis nearly reciprocating.Estimation of this axis has been carried out by first determining several axis points and then fitting a straight line to them, using mandibular movement data. This estimation, however, necessitates two determination steps, and does not necessarily utilize the geometrical constraint on the motion range of the kinematic axis.To improve these, this paper presents a technique capable of directly searching the position and orientation of the axis.In doing so,the axis is evaluated by the volume of its motion range, which is approximately computed from trajectory data of several points on the axis. The validity of this technique was verified, through experiments employing actual mandibular movement data.
