Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Tooth mobility is measured to characterize periodontal tissues. Its 3-dimensional features, however, have yet to be clarified. To detect these in three-dimensions,we have been developing a 6- degree-of-freedom displacement meter,DDM6, 1,using a range finder. This paper presents a practical calibration technique for this. The equipment comprises two elements,a reference devise installing 6 range finders and a moving polyhedron with 6 planar reflecting surfaces, each facing the range finder. The distance-output relationship of the sensor is represented by a polynomial in consideration of its non-linearity.In the calibration, the moving part is translated into different positions, using a 3-D pulse stage. At all positions, translation vector and sensor outputs are recorded.Since the orientation of the moving part relative to the reference devise is not provided precisely,we developed a technique capable of estimating both sensor parameters and the orientation from calibration data. This technique was verified to provide valid estimates, through computer simulation.
