Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Abstract:Activities of the elbow flexors and extensors during forearm supination movements while keeping the elbow joint in 30 degrees flexion were studied in six normal human volunteers using an electromyography(EMG). In the flexors, the biceps brachii showed an increase and a decrease in EMG activities with increasing and decreasing the degree of forearm supination, respectively In contrast, the brachialis and brachioradialis showed clear reductions of EMG activities accompanied with an increment of EMG activities in the biceps brachii. In the extensors, the triceps brachii showed no EMG activities throughout the experiment. These findings indicate ingenious reciprocal relationships among the elbow flexors which permit the biceps brachii to work for forearm supination without an induction of elbow flexion.
