Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Both thalamic relay and reticular neurons are modeled by Hodgkin- Huxley-type differentioal equations in order to investigate the oscillatory mechanism of thalamocortical system.A network model of the thalamocortical system is also constructed with these neuron models. The network model shows that (1) the cooperation between thalamic relay and reticular neurons is essential to generate the bursting oscillation, and that (2) the dc input current to the relay neuron can control the firing mode from tonic to bursting oscillation. These simulations suggest that the thalamocortical circuit and the dc input play an essential role for the dynamics transition in the thalamic neurons during sleep-waking cycle.
