Monitoring and evaluation of heart rate and peripheral blood flow during bathing

Abstract(in English) Heart rate and peripheral blood flow were monitored during bathing.As non-invasive heart rate monitors,bath tub electrocardiography and fiber optic photoplethysmography were developed.The peripheral blood flow was measured with laser Doppler flowmeter.A pulse wave transit time(PWTT)was also calculated from R-wave of elctrocardiogram(ECG)and the peak of photopletysmographic signal.Heart rates obtained by developed monitors were compared with those obtained by telemetry ECG.Six healthy subjects performed bathing.Heart rate increased slowly, while blood flow increased rapidly and reached maximum blood flow rate.The PWTT was also increased.These results showed that heart rate and peripheral blood flow were the useful indices for bathing monitoring.Bath tub ECG monitor and fiber optic photoplethysmography were useful tools to measure those parameters.
