Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A lot of research works on the visually evoked magnetic fields, which used a checkerboard pattern,a flash,a grating, etc.as visual stimuli, measured visual magnetic field from the occipital area.We presented kanji characters and random dot patterns to the subjects and recerded the evoked magnetic fields mainly over the temporal and the parietal areas. The results show that (1) no large activity is observed up to 100 ms poststimulus over these areas,(2) magnetic activity starts at around 200 ms poststimulus over these areas and (3) in some ranges of latency, similar magnetic activities are obtained between the Kanji character presentation and the random dot pattern presentation though the response to the Kanji characters is much stronger than that to the random dot patterns.
