Dipole-localization in a brain by the optimization algorithms

Abstract(in English) We compared algorithms for minimizing the residual sum of squares between the measured and calculated scalp potentials for numerical dipole-localization in a brain.We applied five optimization algorithms (two nonlinear programing,three nonlinear least squares method) to the dipole-localization in a 3-layer spherical model.According to the result,the hybrid method by Powell gave the fastest and most stable convergence.However,in four of the algorithms including the hybrid method,at least one case was recognized where the dipole-location was obtained outside the brain.To avoid this difficulty,we propose to introduce a constrained nonlinear least squares method,and obtained the dipole location correctly.
