Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A technique of multi-focal stimulation is used to analyze the spatial summative nonlinear component of ERG (electroretinogram). The main technical issue of this study is how to remove the effect of light scattering. This is because the mutual interaction of the light scattering and intensity nonlinearity of ERG causes a pseudo spatial nonlinearity as an artifact. In order to represent such effect, we constructed a model including a light scattering. To estimate the ratio of scattering, we performed experiments with checker pattern stimuli. It was found that most of the nonlinear component is due to the light scattering. However, the rest of the component resulting from the removal of the effect of light scattering showed a similar spatial tuning characteristic as known in pattern ERG studies. This result suggests that there exists a spatial summative nonlinearity due to the lateral interaction, which can directly be extracted through the light scattering model.
