Evaluation of trabecular structures with a three-dimensional bone image

Abstract(in English) This paper describes a three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction method of a multiple sliced bone images and an evaluation method of the 3-D trabecular density. First, as a fundamental study of those methods, we reconstructed the 3-D image from the axially sliced bone images of the rat tibias which were normal control and osteoporosis. The both macroscopic and microscopic structures of the rat tibias could be observed clearly by those methods. Second, after we fixed the specific area to be examined, we evaluated trabecular structures using the 3-D trabecular density which indicated a trabecular distribution in the direction of the growth. Finally, those methods made it clear that the 3-D trabecular density of the osteoporosis rat was lower than that of normal one.
