Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the previous studies, we analyzed effects of CO2 on respiratory behavior in the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis, and found the CO2 sensitivity in the behavior. In the present study, to elucidate effects of CO2 load to the respiratory central pattern generator (CPG), we measured the activity of the R.Pe.D1 neuron in the respiratory CPG using isolated CNS preparations. The CO2 load tended to lead to the opposite effects in the rate of respiratory burst discharges depending on the rate before the CO2 load: from the lower rate to higher or from the higher to lower. These results suggest that the central CO2 sensitivity participates in the compound control of respiration in the hypercapnic condition.
