Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the importance of utilization of odors in various fields, food processing and osmetic industry, is getting more and more concerned with the functions of odor substance. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate odors objectively using sensors instead of judging odors subjectively by human sensuous. Particularly, the functions of the plant odors, such as sterilization, prevention against putrefaction and so on have been studied actively in recent days. In the background of this, we developed an odor sensing system based on SAW device for measurement of the herb odors, and performed recognition of the eight kinds of plant odors using the system. In the cognition process, a neural network algorithm with patterm normalization method was used to improve recognition rate.
