Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Light and electron microscopic observations have shown that retinal bipolar cells have various morphological properties. We studied the functional role of the morphological features in forming the central receptive field of bipolar cells by using a model simulation. The major results of the present study were as follows: 1) the increase of coupling conductance at the dendritic processes of neighboring bipolar cells enlarged the central receptive field, but the enlargement was almost saturated at the length constant value of ~150μm in our model, 2)the electrical coupling at axon terminals(ATs) also expanded the receptive field when the response was recorded at AT, but a fine primary process between soma and AT limited the propagation of the receptive field change by AT electrical coupling to soma and dendrites, 3)a thick primary process between soma and dendritic trees decreased the central receptive field size.
