Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) ON-OFF type amacrine cells are well known to be characterized by their depolarizing transient responses to onset and cessation of diffuse flash of light. Mechanisms underlying this nonlinear property are investigated by using slits and moving edges. The results suggest that the nonlinear transient responses are produced locally, presumably at dendritic synaptic sites, and these signals are sent to the cell body where summation occurs to produce a large ON-OFF response usually recorded.
