Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The retina is a model of novel intelligent image sensor. To elucidate the function of the retina, electrophysiological experiments have been made to record the intracellular voltage responses to light stimuli generated by optical stimulation systems. We have developed a new optical stimulation system to study the spatio-temporal properties of light-evoked responses of retinal neurons. The system incorporates a LED array as light stimuli and the image of LEDs is focused on the isolated retina using a microscope. The microscope is equipped with an infrared CCD camera to monitor of recording electrode and LED images. The system is very compact and scans the receptive field of retinal neurons with a high spatial resolution.
