Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) ON-OFF type amacrine cells (ACs) show spike-like transient responses to flash light stimuli. Such highly nonlinear responses might originate in amacrine cells, since no other retinal neurons before amacrine cells show such nonlinearity. In this study, the response characteristics of ACs were measured with spatio-temporally changing light stimuli such as moving edges and gratings. The results suggest that certain nonlinear processes may exist locally over the receptive field of ACs, presumebly at the synaptic sites on the dendrites, perhaps with feedback pathways which generate the transient response.
