Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to clarify the control mechanism of jaw movements, we have been developing an autonomous jaw-movements simulator JSN/1, incorporating cable-tendon DC-servo actuators, simulating the masseter, lateral-pterygoid, digastric and temporalis muscles. As for the control of the horizontal mandibular position during closing, we introduced a hypothesis regarding the coactivation of lateral-pterygoid and posterior-temporalis actuators. The previous control scheme materializing this hypothesis, however, could not yield acceptable reproducibility of the antero-posterior position of the mandible during closing. To improve this, we updated the control mechanism of the posterior temporalis actuators. This modification and the incorporation of bilateral internal-pterygoid actuators enabled our simulator to perform a more life-like open-close movement with high reproducibility of the horizontal mandibular position in the closing phase.
