Optically controlled Beamforming Netwrok Using Birefringent Waveguide for Independently Steerable Multibeam Antenna

Abstract(in English) A beam foming network (BFN) for independently steerable multibeam antenna, which is using birefringent waveguide and wavelength-tunable orthogonally-polarizing optical microwave sources, is proposed. A LiNbO_3 optical waveguide chip for the BFN of 3 beams by 5 elements are designed and fabricated. Three input waveguide, a star coupler, and five outputwaveguide which has a constant length difference of 0.71 mm are integrated on a LiNbO_3 chip. A microwave light source which has the tuning range from 1458 nm to 1584 nm, and orthogonal polarization with 30 dB extinction ratio, output more than 0 dBm RF output for all tuning range.
