Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A divcrsity effective gain (DEG)for estimating the characteristics of a diversity antenna under unequal median value and correlated signal condition has been proposed. The DEG is defined as a product of a mean effective gain (MEG)and a diversity gain of the diversity antenna.Based on this definition, the diversity antenna can be replaced by a single hypothetical antenna. The DEG is useful in considering the pcrformance of a diversity antenna under practical use condition sincc it includes the correlation and effective gain characteristics. By using the DEG, an analysis of the diversity effect of a diversity antenna in free space, which compriscs a whip antenna and a planar inverted F antenna (PIFA)for portable telephones, has been done, AIlalyses yielded DEG characteristic results under various incident wave propagation environments with whip length and indination of the radio body from the vertical as parameters. The results indicate that the DEG is 2.4 dBd for a quarter-wavelength whip antenna and 4.3 dBd for a half-wave length whip antenna under practical use situation where the indination angle is 60°. In further studies the relationship between the degradation of radiation efficiency of a PIFA, which is a significant problem in a recent small sized portable telephone, and the diversity effects was investigatcd. From the results, the DEG decreases by 2.5dB with decreasing the radiation efficiency of the PIFA from 0 to 5dB for a half-wavelcngth whip antenna. The analytical results indicate the practical antenna gain which includes diversity effects in land mobile propagation environments.
