Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In incremental developments of object-oriented systems, several kinds of software metrics have been already proposed to evaluate the qualities of design and object-oriented system software. However, the conventional metrics do not necessarily provide adequate performance to evaluate precisely the qualities, grasping the details of the structural features of design and software. Reviewing several issues concerning object-oriented software metrics, we propose new metrics which can identify the structural features, aiming at couplings, messages, parameters of method and inheritances. The qualities of object-oriented software implemented on a UNIX work station with C++ in typical applications were empirically measured by these metrics. Results indicate that these metrics can estimate unsuitable portions in design and software, identifying the structural features of the designs and the software. It is concluded that proposed metrics are very effective for maintainability and reusability of object-oriented software in out-sourcing of developments.
