Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper describes new concepts and methodologies in digital signal processing (DSP) and VLSI computing, which have been studied by the author's group from the viewpoint of interaction between algorithm and hardware. With a background of DSP and VLSI computing, we are proposing a new research direction for "robot electronics", and exploring new paradigms for future high-performance computing. This paper also presents some latest results of our recent study: example topics include "set-valued logic", a theoretical framework for massively parallel computation using particle-like information carriers, such as optical wavelengths and molecules, that can be transmitted simultaneously through a signal transfer medium. Another interesting topic is a molecular switching device called "enzyme transistor" for wire-free biomolecular computing. The goal of this paper is to summarize the evolution of our past research projects on intelligent electronics and to demonstrate the impacts of new concepts and ideas for future computing and signal processing systems.
