Soft Block Placement method based on Force Directed Algorithm

Abstract(in English) Force Directed (FD) method is proposed as one of the methods which optimizes the sum of the squared length of nets and calculates the block placement without overlap by using the repulsion between blocks. In this paper, we introduce a new approach to optimize the shapes of blocks and propose an effective FD-based algorithm which optimize the shapes and placement of blocks simultaneously. We evaluated the layout by our algorithm on the practical data, and showed the 17.2% cost-reduction against the manual layout in practical time.
