| Abstract(in English) | This paper describes a very small MPEG-2 real-time encoding TypeII PC-card system for mobile applications with a notebook PC. This encoder is achieved compactness and low-power by hardware/software co-design techniques from the viewpoints of real-time constraints as well as performance and flexibility. A dedicated PC-card hardware, including a single-chip video encoder, an encoding timekeeper LSI, an NTSC/PAL decoder, and an audio A/D converter, cooperates with a sophisticated PC-software, including MPEG-1 audio encoding software, multiplexing software, and multi-task monitor to implement the full functionality of MPEG-2 real-time encoding based on a set of MPEG-2 video, audio, and system standards. |
