Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the synchronous design space, divider is often designed based on the SRT algorithm. This algorithm allows the quotient digit selection to be based on an approximation of the partial remainder. By using carrypropagate adder only for most significant bits, we can achieve high-speed divider. But the quotient digits are redundant. On the other hand, performance of asynchronous circuits is determined by mean delay, not by maximum one. So if we detect the sign of the partial remainder fast in the most cases, we could achieve high-speed division based on simpler algorithm, such as nonrestoring algorithm. This paper shows how we can do it by using signed digit representation for partial remainder.
