A Survey on Network-Based 3DCG Systems

Abstract(in English) With the rapid progress of the computer hardware, 3DCG(3-Dimensional Computer Graphics)technology is now available even on PC's. 3DCG objects provide much richer expressions to MM contents than 2D objects. For example, they can be used to interactively build and simulate a space that can be viewed from arbitrary angle. Further, having these 3DCG objects accessible over network, a very rich interactive multimedia environment can be prorided, in which users can collaborate in a virtual 3-D space and browse latest 3-D catalogs, and so on. In this paper, we review the technologies, architectures and examples of various network-based 3DCG systems, followed by modeling techniques that are considered as the key for its expansion.
