A Loop Pipelining Based Design Method for A Motion Estimator with Flexibility of Functional Unit Organization

Abstract(in English) We propose a design method of motion estimator for video image encoding based on loop pipelining. Motion estimators generally use block matching algorithm. By deriving a dataflow graph first, and then apply loop pipelining to the graph, we can realize a flexible design space for motion estimators. Motion estimators have been implemented by array hardware. However, functional unit organization of array hardware can't have flexibility, because the organization is limited to the dataflow grapy. Applying the proposed method, functional unit organization that satisfies the desired execution time is obtained.
